CONCRETE WASH WATER
To

of concrete and other Portland cement-containing products near
fish-bearing waterways please use the following links:
Concrete is a mixture of Portland
cement, aggregate, water and additives. Portland cement is the
active ingredient, or "glue," that holds the cured
concrete together. Portland cement is also the ingredient that
gives concrete wash-water the highly corrosive and deadly
properties that make it a deleterious substance as defined by
the Fisheries Act (see The Fisheries
Act).
Portland cement is found in a
variety of products and used in a variety of places. For
example, it is in concrete, stucco and tile grout. This means
that there are many potential sources of entry of this substance
to the aquatic environment, including: ready-mixed plants;
concrete delivery trucks; and concrete finishers.
