Capilano Salmon Hatchery - Tour
Fish Trap and
Elevator

Returning adults swim up the ladder and
into the fish trap where they are contained by a finger weir.
From here they can be raised up and will slide into a separate tank for
sorting.
Before the hatchery was built (prior to
1971), the fish
caught in the trap were transferred into a transport truck filled with
water. They were then released in the upper river to spawn on
their own.
